Talks

These are some talks I did in the past. Some I'm even willing to do in the future:

Free Software Song

This version of the Free Software Song is a Dutch Translation of the original Free Software Song done by Richard Stallman.
[The file free-software-song-nl.au is a recording of me singing this song]

Sluit je aan en deel de software;
Voel je vrij, hackers, voel je vrij.
(2x)

Hamsteraars vangen heel veel geld,
Dat is waar, hackers, dat is waar.
Maar denken alleen aan zichzelf;
Dat is fout, hackers, dat is fout.

Als genoeg software echt vrij is
voor onszelf, hackers, voor onszelf,
Doen we die vieze licenties weg
Voor altijd, hackers, voor altijd.

Sluit je aan en deel de software;
Voel je vrij, hackers, voel je vrij.
(2x)

Sadly enough, from now on I also include a list of albums I would have purchased recently if they where not CopyProtected

 Anouk  -  Hotel New York
 Blof  -  Het einde van het begin
 Coldplay  -  X&Y
 Kane  -  Fearless

 Janove Ottesen  -  Francis' Lonely Nights
 Robbie Williams  -  Escapology (Cheated on myself and bought a non Copy Controlled version in Russia)
 Janes Addiction  -  Strays

See the file CD.CopyProtected.txt(0.3K) for a complete list of the 8 CD's I would otherwise had bought, if only they where not CopyProtected. As you can see from my other lists I am a big music lover and regularly buy CD's. Unfortunately the music industry is now forcing me to stop buying CD's. Because, for me it's unacceptable that they limit my use of CD's. No, I'm not a pirate and don't have the intent to redistribute their work. I only want to store my music on my computer. So I can use my computer as a jukebox. I know there exists some smart circumvention techniques, but for principle reasons I'm not willing to. Sorry industry, you're about to lose a customer...

The musician in me

Besides Debian GNU/Linux and Free Software in general, there's another thing I really like to play with. It's my Alembic Orion 5String. Want to see a picture of my main gear? (103.3K) I used to play in a band called Dusk Till Dawn. Unfortunately October 2006 we broke up, but there is still a small website around. Most of the nine year existence was big fun, and you might catch some of it at http://www.dusktildawn.nl/.

At the moment I am the bass player for NederBOB, a dutch originals party band. We plays all dutch songs from artist like Doe Maar, De Dijk, Andre Hazes, Drukwerk, Toontje Lager, Kane, Herman Brood, Golden Earring, Normaal, Blof and a lot more. NederBOB is part of a mostly Woerden based collective of musicians, called the BOB. Check our website for more information.

Also included is a nice list of all the songs I play by heart. So if you have a gig and are in need of the single most fresh bass player alive, you know who to call. :) And yes, I am willing to study extra songs if necessary for the job. Anyway, here's the list:

And now for something completely different. Or maybe not that different after all. But nice it is! Karin van de Wiel (of http://www.karinvandewiel.nl/" fame) has done a photo shoot featuring yours truly! Check out http://www.karinvandewiel.nl/feddy/" for some of the most stunning pictures ever made with me and my basses as subject!! I'm impressed and so should you. She has got really some big time talent! And if my bass playing in the near future stalls, I can always continue as a bass model. :)

I occasionaly write lyrics as well and was always busy pushing Alex to use them for Dusk Till Dawn. Unfortunately he had never really seen the beauty of it all... :)
Please check them out and discover the more dark side inside me.

BTW: You should definitely consider buying your gear at Bass Connection. It's a great store with devoted people who know and love what they are selling!

The sporty spice in me

I try to be a real sporty spice and have a lot of fun in doing so. Almost every working day I start of with some running or swimming. The run is most of the times a 13km round from Woerden to Harmelen and back. Swimming 1500mtr, mixing front crawl and breatstroke. Every now and then I do an official run and as of september 2009 I also started doing the thriathlon. Of course not yet an iron man, but maybe in the future...

Below is a table featuring what events I took part of and what times I finished them. As you can seen from the table there is a long gap from july 2006 untill september 2009. This is due to serious failures in my body. Ever since august 2006 I had to stop training because of a nasty failure inside my left ankle. It took several different specialist an awfull lot of months to find out what the problem was and it all ended with a special operation in hospital August 2007. Recovering took the first part of 2008 and when almost done I managed to have another failure. This time my right knee got into trouble. During a gig with Melodramatic the night before queens day I managed to totally break of one of my cruciate ligament. You can't make these things up! So october 2008 I again received an operation in hospital and recovering from that one took the rest of 2008 and the beginning of 2009. Finally around summer 2009 I was back at my old levels, hence my first triathlon september 2009!

The feeling in me

There are times I feel great,
there are times I feel sad
and then there are times I just don't know.
At this particulair moment in my life I kind of feel like below:

XKCD
Also featuring: some feelings from the past. Can you see the happiness pattern? O joy!
Be warned: taking this part of my website too serious, might be hazardous to your health.

The poker player in me

Yes, I like to play poker every now and then. Online on the Internet as well as offline in real life. In this section you can see my progress. My online adventure started october 16, 2008 with 50 dollar received from PokerStrategy. It's simple. Just create an account, read the available documents and pass the quiz. I did and the 50 dollars was mine in a couple of hours. It's well worth the fun and you learn some valuable poker lessons too! A couple of days later I entered some small time real life poker tournaments with friends. Of course the freak I am I like to keep track of everything. Hence this graph is updated automatically once every day using the data I collect about my results.

Life changing documents

This section contains a few links to documents I would really like you to read! A lot of these documents changed my life for the positive and if not they tell at least how we should do things more right than we do. (IMHO)

(not so) Life changing documents

This section contains a few links to documents you can read just for the fun of it. Occasionally I come across things that are just worth mentioning or more stupid than one can believe. Waste your time, waste your time, my friend...

The traveller in me

I'm not one of those big I've seen it all guys, but I've done my share. Especially since the time I was working for Gaming Support. Here's a nice map of the world and all the countries I've visited in red:
